• Answer:

  Lavender Brown’s appearance was never described in the novels, so in the first few films (in which she had no lines) they used a black actress.  When she became a major character, they held a recast and cast (white) Jessie Cave.  I have a lot of thoughts (none of them positive) about the fact that they didn’t cast a black girl after three films presenting Lavender as black.  It sort of comes across as them feeling a love interest for Ron ought to be white, even if that wasn’t their intention.

  The only concrete evidence for Lavender’s race in the novels is a statement in HBP that Harry couldn’t figure out where her arms began and Ron’s ended, which implies that she is in fact white (since the implication is that their skin colors are similar).

She’s definitely not for Ron, and yes she can get really annoying. However when I read the book (six) and saw the movie, I felt so bad for her. I mean Ron didn’t even like her very much, and he pretended to be asleep when she visited the hospital. In fact it kinda made me really mad, I just wanted him to break it off for HER sake, not because he would be better with Hermione, because I didn’t want to see her fall deeper and deeper in love with a guy who really liked someone else.

Just put yourself in her shoes.
